The world wide web…who came up with that idea anyway? The answer to this question is, a lot of scientists. Like many other things that we use today a group of scientist engineered and perfected the internet as we use it today. While there were several individuals that had the idea of a wireless system such as Nikola Tesla, the first real concept of the internet was brought to light by J.C.R. Licklider from MIT. After that the first workings of the internet came about in 1960 with Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET). this technology continued to grow and in 1983 the network of networks was born and became the internet of today. Since then there have been advancements such as the invention of the “world wide web” in 1990 and there are sure to be advancements in the future.
When thinking about how the internet is used, we think of many things but one of the most prevalent is communication. It used to be that e-mail was the primary source of communication across the internet, but today there have been many more platforms added. Some of the most popular being social media sites such as twitter facebook. On these platform you are able to post updates to what is going on in your life and with your family along with pictures. Here your family and friends are able to keep up with you without having to make a phone call every night or just send an e-mail back and forth. E-mail has become a great way of formal communication for businesses both inside and outside their company. Today resumes for potential employees are no longer hand delivered, but instead e-mailed to the Human Resource Department or Hiring Manager. E-mail is also a great way to set up meetings with co-workers and send attachments for review beforehand.
While there are still a lot of sited for blogging, I believe that they are quickly becoming a thing of the past as Vlogs are taking over by storm. The more people that I talk to say that they are not watching TV anymore and instead are only watching youtube and other people’s Vlogs. While this is a great way to get information out there to everyone, you still have to be careful of what you are sharing, for instance you may forget that a piece of mail is laying on your counter and you show your address. This is something that is not as possible in a blog. Another type of communication that goes along with Vlogs is podcast. These seem to be a great platform for upcoming artist or actors to share their music or what their movie is about to gain attention, the more they can have their name heard the more likely people are to listen to their music or see their show. Pod casts are also a great platform for political events, although they can sometimes become overwhelming.
Lastly is the streaming aspect of the internet. This is fastly becoming more popular by the day with more and more people cancelling their TV providers because they just aren’t watching the live shows anymore. Before streaming was more for older TV shows and movies that people were still interested in watching from time to time. Now Streaming is booming with their own series and movies. It’s really too bad that Blockbuster didn’t buy Netflix when they had the chance..anyway. With this in mind a lot of the TV providers such as direct are even trying to sell their own version of streaming live tv, however I’ve tried it and it leaves a lot to be desired.
